"Like many Penn State students involved in extracurricular activities, student-athletes must balance multiple demands," said Interim Vice Provost and Dean, Undergraduate Education Jeff Adams. "It is important to acknowledge the role many others play in helping these students be successful. This includes our faculty, our academic advisers in the Colleges and Division of Undergraduate Studies, the counselors and learning specialists in the Morgan Center, and the many staff who serve our students on a daily basis. Penn State is truly impressive because of both the high academic achievement and involvement of our students outside of the classroom whether in athletics, THON or other activities."

Penn State Among the Nation's Premier Athletic Programs in Comprehensive Excellence

Under the leadership of Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Patrick Kraft, Penn State has one of the nation's most comprehensive and successful athletic programs, featuring 800 student-athletes across 31 varsity programs (16 men's, 15 women's). The Nittany Lions' 31 programs are tied for the fourth-highest number of sports sponsored by a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) institution.
